Yoga – Frequently Asked Questions

What to Expect from your first Yoga Lesson

The lesson will last 1 hour and 30 minutes and will work through a plan which incorporates limbering and Yoga asanas (postures). It will usually end with a 15 minute period of relaxation.
We work with the breath throughout the lesson. This may seem difficult to start with, but don’t worry about this, just do what you feel happy with.

What to do before you arrive

Try to allow at least two hours after a meal before you come to a class (have a light snack if necessary)

What Do I Wear To a Yoga Class?

Wear clothes that are comfortable and non-restricting, women usually wear leggings and a T-shirt.
Men usually wear training bottoms/shorts and a T-shirt.

Again don’t worry about this as it is not a fashion parade!
Bare feet is normal, (non slip socks could be worn in the winter)

If you wear contact lenses, it might be better to bring an old pair of spectacles.

What Do I Bring To a Yoga Class?

If you are new I can provide a Yoga Mat.  I recommend you get yourself your own Yoga Mat so you can also practice at home.

A blanket or some extra clothing for when you relax.

I Have A Medical Condition Or Injure. Can I Still Participate In Class?

Please let me know in advance or at the start of the class so I can give you modifications or alternative postures to practice.

Always consult your doctor before undertaking any exercise program.

Yoga is non-competitive

You do not need to be concerned with what other students can or cannot do, everybody is different. A posture that is easy one day may not be as easy the next.
Listen to your body. Do what you feel comfortable with. Try to do what you can, but never strain the body. If it hurts, stop!
Yoga is not about twisting the body into strange positions. If there is anything you do not wish to do, you don’t have to do it!

    Testimonials For Kathryn’s Yoga Classes

    Helen Brown

    Yoga Student

I have been going to Kathryn’s classes for over a year now and I love them so much, that I now go twice a week. Her classes are always a bit different and you can tell how much work goes into preparing them – you never get bored! It is not your typical Vinyasa style class, as so much time is spent preparing and your body for a particular pose and it makes you realise how wrong you’ve been doing it in the past. I feel so much better physically and mentally since starting her sessions

    Debbie Fleet

    Yoga Student

Kathryn has a welcoming, warm and energising approach to her classes. She has a strong sense for our individual needs, and is informative and supportive. My flexibility has improved and her classes aid in focusing on the positive. I thoroughly enjoy the class and my aim is to arrange my week to include another.

    Lynn Blackston

    Yoga Student

I really look forward to Kathryn’s yoga class due to her wonderful, thorough teaching and fantastic personality. Kathryn welcomed me into her class a couple of months ago with a huge smile and continues to do so every week I attend. Her standard of teaching is highly skilled, well explained and leaves me feeling I have learned a bit more about my mind and body!
